As long as it’s LCOL and has a good hospital and decent food.

I would live in a cave in Pakistan for that.
Chief
It’s a short commute
I think my view is - the author has received an offer from a small company (possibly PE owned) who wants him/her to join and grow the firm and they are paying through their noses to have him but city is very sad and he is unable to make a decision whether more money with a shitty city is worth it :)
My suggestion: take it if it has decent healthcare, good food and people, and schools for your kids !
If you are single then let it be 😂

I would do this. A small town with reasonable cost of living sounds amazing. The only tradeoff is you’d need to save a lot because your house won’t appreciate as quickly as a major metro area.
Only if I weren’t single
Yes. I have been considering moving to the Mountains. That salary would give me ample to build the house I want and not worry about anything.
Where do I apply?
Yes
Absolutely I would, Plus cost of living is likely to be less. Heck at that salary you can buy a second home and use your WLB to enjoy time in a big city.
Yes!!
A lot of specialist doctors have this choice. For me, it’s a question of proximity and to family and friends. I wouldn’t move to Peoria simply because my friends and family aren’t there and I have everything I need where I am.
I guess it depends on what your burn rate is and what your quality of life non-negotiables are. if you want flash, then it’s probably a no go. But if you want to save / invest, I’m pretty sure you can afford travel and leisure.
Depending on priorities, I can imagine few wouldn’t take this depending on what stage of your life you’re in. If you’re younger in your career, frugal, it’s easily family office money after about 10-15 years.
For that comp you could fly back and forth to NYC/LA every weekend
Top 5% problems
Top 1% my guy lol
Definitely depends on if you're talking about some place with decent local food like the South or Southwest. I've been to Fargo, ND, and there's no amount of money that would ever make me want to live there.
If there were a good private school in reasonable commute distance yes
What are your alternatives? You said you're early 30s... are you an AP now or a Partner already? If not a Partner yet then could you make it there soon? And do you want to get married?
$750k-1M a year sounds nice, but... I'm making half that right now and if you told me I could double that but that my wife and kid disappeared from my life, I know what my choice would be. That's my perspective, obviously you might have different priorities and that's fine
I guess it’s all perspective. Living in a large metro area seems like a mediocre life to me.
You are single, take the job, get a helicopter ride into Chi or Atlanta every Friday night.
Absolutely
Yep. I’d probably do it for 3-5 years. I’ve travelled to countless places that would meet that description for work. Many rural areas where the people were extremely nice but there wasn’t much to do. Our clients would often offer us positions with them. A coworker and I used to go back and forth on how much money it would take to move to a given area. This was early in my career and our pay was very low. In reality though, it would be unusual for the pay to be higher in a non-metro area than a major city due to lower cost of living.
