Would you consider moving for a job? I was recently contacted about a job, but it is in a state far away.

I would visit on site facility first and get a tour. Usually, in the present day, it's a trap. They can't get anyone local to fill the position. If you accept the position site unseen AND move there, you will never forgive yourself. Just sayin'.

It'd depend on the compensation and the state. Somewhere in the PNW, absolutely. I wouldn't move back to Indiana for anything less than 7 figures though 😂

like

Depends on where and the pay

like

Yes, I risked everything moving to Texas. It paid off. I make more here, I'm happier, I don't have to live in a big city but still have access to sooo many things. Up north it's just not like that.

Sometimes betting on yourself pays off in even bigger ways than we could have imagined. If this job is of genuine interest to you go for it.

like

Of course I would
In fact I would do anything possible to move

like

I did after asking the group to pay for my spouse and I to visit the city for a few days, visit the practice, contribute heavily toward relocation and a 2 yr contract with very detailed termination conditions and severence pay for all termination reasons beyond my control. I ended up not liking the job, but we love the new city and found other employment. You can make it a calculated risk in your favor.

like

Absolutely! I did it.

like

Yes what is keeping you there

like

I personally wouldn’t but I am also happy where I am geographically and just did a major move not too long ago.

like

Yes but like others have said, it definitely depends on the area. It also depends on how important to me my current location is.

Six years ago, my answer would have been a resounding no. Five years ago, I received a request to be flown out to Seattle from my home of 42 years in the Southeastern U.S. I landed a great job in healthcare administration for a state-level position, which was a huge career move for me. I took a shot and made the move and have not regretted a moment of it. I've discovered how very strong I am on my own without having to rely on family and friends, and I've discovered how very talented I am by being blessed with a VP that has let me make major decisions and take huge chances. It has benefitted myself and my organization greatly. Now, I'm ready to make the move back to the Southeast to serve the population that I grew up in, and I couldn't be more grateful for the experience.

like

I couldn't only because I have little ones and moving away would mean less support for me

like

Yes, Depending on location

Yes

Been there, done that. Too old now.

Did some work for govt yrs ago, easy to get burned out,
If I were younger, Yes, absolutely would
(depending on the country/job)

I did twice and loved it!! I don’t have a problem bouncing- but make sure it’s what YOU want to do. Look at the area for the crime and cost of living. Make sure you’ll be comfortable with the rent and if you choose to buy - make sure the areas in your price range is safe. If you have children make sure the schools are good as well!!! Good Luck!!

I absolutely would. All depending on salary and location. Can you share where and the salary

I think it depends on the position, the quality of life you would have in the new place, and what/who you'd be leaving behind. I also think it's perfectly reasonable to request a tour before you make your decision.

I would if there was some moving assistance I would in a heartbeat

I would check out the housing market over there and the cost of living. I would check on the politics to see if they align with you. If the pay justifies the cost of living I would do it. Anywhere in the south east however, I would avoid as the cost of insurance is high due to natural disasters that occur

The location I work for in this company has had managers that had nervous breakdowns and I’m afraid I’m heading that direction.
