I used to have an HYSA until I realized the proceeds were considered riba. At that point I closed the account and yes donated all interest I had earned on the account. If you’re looking for a way to generate extra income to donate, I’m not sure the permissibility of willingly earning income from riba for that purpose. If you’re looking for a legit way to grow your savings, there are certainly halal options. For example in the US there is a halal profit sharing account (which functions similar to a HYSA) through university Islamic financing available.
Yes, I have my savings in an account with no interest whatsoever. I was thinking of why not to generate more money - which I know it will be riba - and probably donate it to clean mosques or something similar.
You can donate it, but will receive no rewards for it. It will be purely for the purpose of cleansing your wealth.
I know I would not receive rewards for it but will I be considered a riba person. Will I receive bad deeds for it? I just feel it will be beneficial to donate to mosques instead of nothing- I do not know though!
There's a difference in opinion of scholars. Many believe there's no riba between a Muslim and Non-Muslim.
