it depends really. if they live at a distance because they intend to keep their family at a distance, then i’d respect that and wouldn’t struggle with it. but if their family is still an active part of their life. regular calls, holiday visits etc but they couldn’t be honest about introducing me on a reunion gathering occasion, it could be a struggle.
also, there’s layers to family. like if they’re out to nuclear family just not extended family, i could entirely understand circumstances where that’s just not worth it until they are in a real life changing relationship.
lastly, it depends on my interests at the moment. the above all assumes i’m aiming for the specific purpose of a long term relationship. if i see potential instead as short term fun… for i dunno threshold less than a year and with an expiration date? then sure, what harm’s a second date.
Good call on gauging family closeness. Her family's in another country, but I've yet to inquire how involved they are with her life in NYC. We're both dating for the long haul. I'm cautious tho about committing to what sounds like a recipe for heartbreak
