Also, last 15 days I gave 4 to 5 interviews, all in product based companies and all went well but did not get any feedback till now from anyone. Should I wait more or start sending followup mail?

Work from home is the best opportunity we all have. I can't go back to office, stuck in traffic, wasting so much of my time. I would prefer job change than going office again.
Nope! Not really the best opportunity for โeveryoneโ as you stated. Maybe for some.
Ideal would be a hybrid approach. Those who want to wfh should be allowed to wfh & those who donโt, should be welcome to come to office.
Permanent wfh is going to ruin so many things in our country, especially for women. Wfh is not really just office work. Itโs office work + house work (through out the day) with no boundaries and limits. Expectations from families will keep increasing when they see the DIL, mom, wife at home all day. Not a lot of families here are cooperative to working women. For a lot of them, office is a good break from mundane household chores that are dumped on them.
Everyone has their own opinion. Working is not about just slogging on laptop and delivering what was assigned to you, it about learning (from otherโs projects), making connections, creating a boundary between work and home and many more. In last 1.5 years, I made zero progress on last three points.
If you prefer WFH, good for you, as you might have more advantages with this. But that doesnโt mean everyone want it or everyone has to agree to it.
I personally prefer hybrid model, because I see more advantages than disadvantages for myself.
The time I was used waste in traffic...I use that time for zym now. I SAVE 30-40K by leaving in my home rather than on rent. Don't know Why somebody like to go office ๐๐๐๐คฃ
Pro
1. Spelling mistake you pointed out. NO big deal?๐
2. Yes we have home in Delhi/Ncr. We both are working in ~10 yoe both. We hv own home in Delhi NCR and both of our companies allow us to do WFH before corona also. We live with our parents. Because of WFH, she is able to manage her job otherwise she must had leave the job already. She is Ok living with parents. We will never pay any rent/loan etc. The point is WFH made us save a lot in terms of money & time & managing our baby. By the way, because of WFH, i could spend my time on learning share market also and we have made enough to survive our whole life even if we stop earning today. Again the point is that time is money. Nothing important than that. If you are capable you can also do second job together secretly ๐ if you doing WFH.
I personally would prefer to go to office.
You must hv people around who can manage your baby or may be you are unmarried.

I think there should definitely be a hybrid approach. A certain percentage of IT folks are desperate to get back to office I am not sure why ๐ค. The remaining are cool with wfh.
So whoever wants to get back to office can get back and whoever wants to continue wfh can do so IMHO.
The way the IT employees have stood up and delivered during the pandemic disruptions, this should be the least the companies can do for them. Otherwise, we will see alot of resignations incoming.
Ask me personally and I would say if possible take it up a notch and make it work from anywhere within the country instead of work from home. This will give the employees maximum flexibility and those who are not settled and love to move about to new places can do so with ease.
And yep I'm in favor of wfh. Don't see any reason why I will spend huge amounts on rent and crap when I can save up or spend it for my own needs.
P.S. This two fanged approach can lead to an unfair divide in the employees in terms of appraisals and promotions due to presence of leaders loving micromanagement from the office. We can only wait and see how it pans out. But by the way the job market is growing currently, I don't think such unfair practises if implemented will run for long as the good employees will leave with better hikes.
One or two employees gets infected and it will all be back to square one
I think the company is also responsible if you are living with family, you risk infecting them too who have no relationship with Infosys cause family is covered ONLY if you have opted for the insurance with Infosys and that too only your parents and children not other family members
1) Infosys is not calling its employees back yet. They have left it open if we wish to come back or not. Don't panic, yet.
2) I doubt it'll be a fully work at office model for the long term. What I feel might happen is they'll introduce a fully work from office model, face a lot of backlash, then offera hybrid model as a 'perk'.
3) Again regardless of what model they offer, if your manager is fine with you working from home all the time, then it probably doesn't matter what the official policy.
Brace yourself, after proper vaccination. Offices will open and all employees will be asked to return gradualy. There will be a mandate that you need to come to work 2 days in a week - or at least one week in a month for bonding/ meetings. It won't look when 50% of employees attend town hall through office other through teams meeting. Other than those who have valid/genuine reasons like taking care of kids/ parents - rest all will be expected to report for all firm events. None of the companies have revoked their lease agreements in Bangalore, rather they occupied new floors in same building. So our honeymoon phase is over and let's accept the new reality of going back to work.
I'm with India.. So far clients have also cooperated but this kind of chatter definitely won't help ๐
I believe we should welcome this change. With offices opening up, there is more learning opportunities for juniors. Of course, life has become simpler, saving has increased, family time has increased. But, learning and productivity have gone down. Moreover, office provides a much needed discipline in life. I had savings and good physical fitness even when I was going to office. So, I guess people have taken out time from office hours and used them in other activities, which is unethical too. Hence, I am in favor of getting back to office with a more relaxed criteria of long work from home options.
@Al1 - Strange how just a bit of criticism about your opinion and an argument breaking down your analogy made you use thinly veiled sarcasm instead of a counter argument. Please accept my apology in case you are offended.
Having said that, I agree that working from office has its advantages but we have managed to get the same advantages through technological innovation in major companies. Even something like sales that requires constant customer connect has managed to bounce back to pre-pandemic levels through connectivity medium like web-based phone/video calls.
When something like education can be transfered to long-distance where the motivation for any person to act comes only from within, I don't see why employees can't work productively from anywhere when the collaboration tools in hand are immense.
Let's see the pros for working from anywhere?
- Scratching away time loss due to travel
- Better visibility of work life balance given you can use the breaks to spend time with your family, have lunch with them or play with your pets or invest in yourself, be it online learning, upskilling or physical health.
- Cost saving as you don't have to spend on rent
- Anybody from any part of the country can be hired reducing pressure on metropolitan cities, work-hubs of India & opening a plethora of right candidates to chase as the hiring gets opened to tier-2 & tier-3 cities
- Effectively, ending up giving flexibility to employees avoiding burn out in highly demanding jobs
Now let's see the cons -
- Lack of collaboration and peer learning.
This can easily be mitigated by online collaboration tools and setting up SOPs for training and development within any team no matter the work.
I know a completely WFH model is not a near possibility. But to shy away from the idea is just plain dumb. Because let's face it - companies who will force the employees to come back to office even when they don't want to will showcase a very laid-back, micro-managing approach. The response to which either will be decreased employee satisfaction leading to higher attrition rates or simply loss of interest and passive aggressive dislike towards the company's leadership.
Let's try and leave this upto the employees. Do they want to Work from Office? Sure. If not? WFH instead.
Now managers like you will have to accept that and not discriminate basis the choice that the employee makes.
P.S: When you give an analogy to support your argument, it becomes a part of your argument. So, if I am refuting your analogy, I am also refuting your argument. But then, I am just someone who started working in the pandemic phase, hence, according to you, I might not know office things that obviously, you master at.
Therefore,
Peace out.
And those who opt for permanent WFH wiill take a small hit in their salary, as HR will reduce the HRA citing that you are working in a Tier 3 location. Google already announced the cut in salary for permanent WFH folks. So our WITCH guys will easily use permanent WFH as a tool for our ratings / hikes.
https://www.cnet.com/news/google-employees-angered-by-search-giants-hypocritical-remote-work-policies/
They cut 15-25% from salary for those who opted for WFH in their native ;)
Hi fishes ,
