FWIW, I had a scheduled c section due to breech and it was a breeze. I’m not diminishing others’ experiences but my recovery went great, the process was as expected, no complications. And no pelvic floor issues postpartum. I’ll likely do a planned C for my next too
Lol. I was fairly lazy during my pregnancy and I too had a great recovery from a scheduled c-section. I fully credit my QL block for that.
OP, if you are like me and can barely drag your pregnant butt off the couch, all hope is not lost for a low-pain recovery 😊
My scheduled c section was 10000% easier than my induction that failed after almost 2 days in labor.
This is not even a question for me. 1000% avoid major abdominal surgery if you safely can. C-section recovery can be brutal. Otherwise, only priority is getting baby safely here.
Didn’t have a scheduled c-section, but after a day of labor and minimal progression, escalated to a c-section. I’m with manager 3 here, the recovery wasn’t bad. The first 3-5 days weren’t great, but I was walking around, going up stairs, etc. by the time I got home with no pain/discomfort. It’s not that way for everyone, but the recovery was a lot easier than a lot of my friends who didn’t end up with a c-section. It all depends on you, your body, the birth, etc., and unfortunately, you won’t know until you’re there (or how the alternative would have gone).
My induction led to 36 hours of labor + 4 hours of pushing only to end up with an emergency c section. Definitely scheduling a c section vs induction.
Same. And second baby was a scheduled C-section (after the first being an induction and emergency C). The second was so easy…scheduled for 10am, came in at 8am and baby was born at 10:07
If I could do it again, id wait longer to see if I could do it naturally or skip right to the c-section. I was overdue a week and a day when I had my induction and was mid/late 30s.
Seems like the experience varies vastly and there is no universal for or against and of those
It is: it depends on… and you can only retroactively say which one worked well for you vs not
Yes, this is exactly it. Both options are what they are with their own sets or positives, negatives, and possible complications.
Assuming all goes well — it’s my opinion that they suck the same amount but one has all that suck in 12 hrs of labor and then it done and the other has the same about of sucking but spread over 4-6 weeks on surgical recovery.
My only advice is that If you go with induction, get the epidural because it is a little more intense than natural labor in my experience.
I had a scheduled c-section for twins and it was absolutely awful, (coming from someone that has had many surgeries, kidney stones, etc. and have a high pain tolerance).
I'm 3 1/2 yrs later and still have sensitivity on my scar, (not to mention it does not look great).
I'm not kidding, I would have attempted delivering twins vaginally knowing what I know now.
From my personal experience, a c-section was way worse. I had a surprisingly pleasant VBAC recently via induction despite REALLY not wanting to not be induced based on my first birth that led to a c-section. I posted about the two different experiences to the VBAC Reddit community.

I was considered a geriatric pregnancy, and my induction was a breeze. Originally I thought I had wanted a c section but once I was recovering at home and realized how mobile I still had to be, I was so thankful I could use my abdominal muscles normally.
I was induced for both of my babies. Made it so easy. Intending to induce for my third due in a few months. (I induce right around the due date.)
Induced. Was in at 7am, drugs started at 10am. Pushed at 10pm. Baby at 11pm. Great experience.
Yes. It ended up not really mattering because I dilated so fast after they broke my water that I could feel through it (3cm to 10 in an hour)
Would still do it again
My friend who’s a labor and delivery doctor at Stanford’s hospital had two inductions and said that’s what she’d pick — that C section recovery is intense and that inductions can be really fine. I am still scared of induction but she insists hers were fine and that her birth plan would be to induce at 39 weeks
Have a scheduled c section at 39 weeks. Can’t handle the induction..
I had an induction at 39+5 that absolutely didn’t take and I ended up with a c section. That’s a bad outcome because you go through all the stress of a tiring exhaustion and then have major abdominal surgery.
I didn’t appreciate it at the time, but there were definitely signs the induction would be very slow at best. I was not at all dilated, and my cervix was still super firm. If that happened again I would go straight to a c section.
But what I actually did for my second was wait until I went into labour naturally (at 41+5!) and then had a successful VBAC. That was good! Is waiting for spontaneous delivery an option for you?
