Why do many tax lawyers end up going to Big 4 firms and act like a know-it-all - when they are actually law firm rejects??

Used to work at Big 4 for almost a year and left to a mid size firm for more pay and to work with financial services /capital markets . I enjoy the midsize firm more but feel like I should have stayed at big4 a bit longer for the “prestige “. Did I mess up career wise?

Hi all! We’re doing quite a bit of hiring on our HR team at LEK Consulting - in particular Manager positions in LA and Boston and a specialist role in NYC. If anyone is interested, or knows someone that could be a good fit, feel free to dm me!
Leave big4 before you make manager or else they will have specialized you and pay you more than anyone else can afford for your experience level
So I did a lot of work upfront this summer/fall to get my areas in a good shape. And today I learned they are giving those areas to someone else and I am being put in charge of an area that’s a hot mess 🙃 learned my lesson not to do extra work, since it’s only rewarded with more work.

Starting out a full time job out of college not MBB but I am considering applying to MBB again for fall recruiting this year. I interviewed with all 3 within the past year (1st round ding) and I am eligible to apply again. I do not have the zeal to study for it nor apply again because my current job is 80k, 25 PTO and I close by 2pm. I am very much interested in having my own startup and working on it after 2pm but I know I wouldn’t have that at MBB. Should I push MBB to post MBA or try again?
Looking for help to negotiate offer: recruiter brought up comp expectations twice during interview process and asked if I was ok with 110-120 salary. Offer came in near the low end. Can I ask for higher (125) now that they’ve extended an offer? The role is a step down in terms of level so we’d discussed coming in closer to the top of the range. I also have a retention bonus at my current firm that I didn’t bring up as I wanted to wait until I received an offer.
Will a 3 rated senior 3 get promoted to manager? I am contemplating between quiting now and busting my ass to get to manager.
Realized I’ve been contributing all post tax dollars to my 401k for the past 1.5 years. Am I able to convert this to a roth somehow? What kind of tax liability might I have? Should I switch to pre tax contributions?
I decided to freeze my eggs and it makes me sad to realise that I might be an evolutionary failure forcing against nature. It also feels that by freezing my eggs I'm giving up on meeting a partner to have a child naturally. Anyone felt similarly?
Evaluating Lacework’s cloud and container security platform for my company in lieu of utilizing AWS native security — their application of ML on AWS telemetry is compelling, and I see it cutting down the signal to noise ratio on alerts. Curious if any folks here have deployed it in their environment? If so, what is your take on the platform? Lessons learned? What other solutions did you evaluate (e.g., Prisma Cloud)? Were you coming from your provider’s native security?
Extension RFE: Lawyers ask for how I split time between client site/home office during M-F and also when I start/end the project. What kind of RFE is this? Is it though to convince USCIS?
Not currently in BigLaw but looking to lateral to a remote securities/cap markets position (live in a secondary market) from a boutique. Non-traditional older associate, billed 2000 hours last year and received a 2.5% raise and $1,000 bonus (other associates received $20k). Performance was not terrible, but less supervision so definitely made mistakes. Now finding out I am undervalued after getting interest from firms in the range of 50-60% more than my current salary. Anyone hiring?
