I’m mid-level in my HR career at my current company and an upcoming Master’s graduate. Studying for my SHRM-CP too. How did you make the transition to that next level? What skills do you need, or is it really just based on YOE (I am the youngest compared to my teammates, many who have 10+ YOE)? I feel like career pathing is not very clear at my company. Each time I ask for guidance on this from my manager, I get told they’ll look into it.... would love some external mentorship and thoughts 🙏🏼

Anecdotally—just going by posts Im seeing here and twitter, linked in etc—I think this really might be the year the industry starts generally considering awards to be…pick your word…. bullshit/obsolete/useless/paid for/ not worth it/jacked up/a cash grab…like actual younger creatives seem to be seeing it. And theyre the prime audience for awards as a business.

Is it common for company to ask to talk to your references before being offered the job? I’m currently interviewing for an IP position for a biotech start-up (I would be the first lawyer in the company). I interviewed with 6 people. They said it’s b/w me and 1 candidate and they want to talk with our references before deciding. I prefer to have my current supervisors give my reference but obv don’t want to tell them until I’ve seen the offer and I prefer to not use old supervisors. Thoughts?

Hey folks, I got an offer from IBM ISL, But the offer is dated 2 months as joining date, but my notice period is 3 months. This was agreed by the hiring manager. He also offered Joining bonus if I could join in 2 months. HR said the date is tentative and they will renew the offer, so I accepted the offer. Now am running behind the HR to get the offer renewed. Can I trust their words, or will they backout from the offer after 2 months. Please help.

This may be a dumb question, but is there any business role/function where you’re not sitting in front of a computer all day? Before entering the corporate world I was in the restaurant industry for many years and was on a computer maybe 10% of the time. I’ve been in consulting for four years but still can’t stand sitting behind a computer and building PPTs all day - is corporate America just not for me?
