I need to take a leave of absence for mental health purposes. How do I bring this up with my boss? Or do I talk to HR directly? I took some time off this month due to burnout but I did not tell them that was the reason. I thought I'd be okay when I got back, but I'm not. I don't know if they will give me the leave of absence. How should I go about this?

Hey all, Happy Monday. Curious for feedback on how you've seen severance offers approached.

My prior companies have always been what I thought of as average: min of 2 weeks plus extra week for every year for ICs, min of 4 weeks plus extra week for every year for managers, etc. for Directors & beyond.

Current co refuses to offer more than 1-2 weeks, max. I had to go to bat recently for a 3 year + manager level only to get 3 weeks and my leadership team is NOT happy with me.

What does burnout feel like for you?
I’ve been pedal to the metal, launching one or both of my two brands, filling in for departed managers AND direct reports who weren’t replaced, and living through pandemic madness for over a year now. The work never stops but I have never felt less engaged. The word “kickoff” fills me with despair. I’m burned to a crisp, right?
