$1.2M in brokerage right now and my FIRE goal is $4M in brokerage to stop working. I know I’m at least 5 years away from that goal but still finding it so hard to stay motivated at work

Yes, how will you go from $1.2M to $4M in 5 years?

That’s a big jump.

$4m is a lot.
You could live on less than that and retire earlier

4M to 6.8M in 5 years? Yeah no problem. 1.2 to 4? Hmm

like

$1.2M at 7% CAGR will get you $1.7M in 5 years. The gap to $4M, assuming same CAGR for incremental investment over those years, can be closed if you invest ~$400k per year. Doable if you can save and invest at that rate over the next 5 years, OR, you catch a lucky break with your investments and the period is a little less than 5 years.

Also please let me know if anybody have switched technology in current organisation or new organisation from mainframe and which company to target which could offer exposure to other technology along with Mainframe. Is there a definitive guide to cost of living? The obvious cost of living centers (SF, NYC, LA etc.) get covered a lot, but I’m wondering where my city falls.
