M&A. The skillset is needed and more niche. You’ll outgrow 100k sooner than you think.
How much sooner than I think 👀
$100k in NYC was tough when I did it, but certainly doable if it’s your preferred area of interest. I started in NYC at $70k and that was… really difficult.
Pick the job you like best. Money will
Come.
It is when cost of living is considered. 100k is comparable to a 65k offer in the MCOL city
I would take the 115 and go for another position later if as I value quality of life
Try to negotiate to get LEK to match 115. Pretty sure their entry level pay is 90-100 out of college so it should be doable
Already tried for a match - something about all associate consultants coming in at same $
That’s tough. My 2 cents - think about the exit opps. If you really want to continue into the PE deal team/ops path or a Corp dev role that requires the M&A skill set, go for it.
Having worked previously at D in a tech implementation role and now at EYP, the diligence lifestyle is significantly more hours. Normally that comes with a better salary, which is not the case here.
The long term payout could be worth it but only if you’re shooting for a path that requires M&A experience
Are you an experienced hire coming into LEK? Are you life sciences?
(Their entry level is associate, so technically experienced hire yes, but only slightly so. It’s definitely a pivot as I am in an ops heavy role atm)

I consider 100k the poverty level in NYC (jokingly) but it's not as comfortable as it would seem.
Rising Star
I’m not sure what everyone’s expenses look like, but in I live on 105K comfortably. By that, I mean I can go out and still enjoy the city but budget throughout the week. Find a place with a rent you’re comfortable with and choose the job that you think will lead to a better exit later.
