I hate NY (there I said it) so I’d take San Fran in a heartbeat. especially client side. especially with stock.
I hate SF, so I’d take NYC.
But, not everything is that simple.
Honestly, salary comes almost secondary to stock grants. I’m a life long NYer but the only way I’m ever going to be able to buy a house in Brooklyn is through the stock I received. It’s a means to an end for me, and I haven’t regretted my decision for a second (moved to SF).
They are golden handcuffs but I’m laughing to the bank.
@VP1 totally get it
What do you want to do in 2 years? Is the client side role going to give you the experience and potential to go up to head of production? If you want to progress , taking the lower paid role for a head of dept would give you experience - do that for two years and you can get 180k by moving. I was in a similar position 18 months ago - I took the experience over salary because I knew the money would come. Other thing to consider is whether you’d price yourself out by taking higher salary for “regular producer”! All depends on what you want in future
I’ve run groups before. I’d learn more about myself at the startup. Work would be more difficult and time consuming. Client side is more boring, I’m just not sure I’m ready for those golden handcuffs yet. Seems once you go client side the stock keeps you hostage for years to come
@Google 1 you plan to go back to NY eventually?
Client side.
Fashion agencies can be a nightmare
Absolutely, and within the next 2-3 years maximum. It’s an adventure, NY will always be home.
If the tech company is going to be decent, there’s just too much upside. Not to mention, I imagine they are going to relocate you, so let’s say absolute worst case you move back in a year having skipped a winter and with a great mark on the resume.
Just my attitude,
@Google1: agonizing over this exact thing right now, and probably about to make the same decision. Would love to connect and hear about your experience.
Hey, I’d be happy to chat — just not sure how to connect. Lmk if there’s a good way for you.
How much stock are we talking here?
