Totally different roles...I would always be skeptical of an AE with 50/50 split and a base that matches a 80/20 role split (I have never seen a salary for a sales person where the bonus is that high but the base has not been adjusted down...unless they are pretty aware that AEs rarely hit target and they will lose them if it ends up the SE is making a huge amount more, via the base, than the AE - at end of day, SE and AE are basically peers and should be on similar OTE - this tells me they know their AEs do not hit targets, are just floating that number to attract talent and then hoping that a decent base will not make them run out the door when the bonus does not eventuate)...only expect your base, bonuses are not guaranteed and I am always skeptical of what they put in job ads, especially when it is about 80k more than what you would expect for an AE role - unless you have spoken to other AEs there and confirmed that targets are 100% achievable. Take the higher base, the more technical role, the flexibility and the equity...how would you feel about that commute for an AE role if you only attained 50% of the target? Would you immediately hate your job and want to replace? TBH, if the bonus component is the only reason you would take the AE job, take the other one - I would bet you your full bonus that a 150k+ annual bonus is unlikely to eventuate.
Seem like you value your flexibility more. Ask if 340 is achievable or 250? Would the 90k be more valuable to you/your family or the 2hour round trip time you save ?
Right? I’m leaning that way atm. 2 hours daily in a car will get to me quickly and eat at the additional 90k after taxes.
Both great offers - how many YOE?
7 at D, 2 with industry prior to D so 9 total.
My opinion: Pre sales depends upon the product or service and how healthy the pipeline generation is, sometimes I have they’re overworked in term as several deals to be done in a week to that of no work and asked to do other tasks outside of pre sales. So if you are more comfortable with the product/ team you should always pick it.
I am not sure if I see the clarity in terms of account executive are you responsible for delivery and does this org. Has good team/decently solutioned in terms of scope etc and how comfortable are you if things goes south and how much power/leverage you have in terms of decision to make the red to green etc.
Go for your strength and decide congrats and all the best
Ty! To clarify the AE role would carry a quota. I’d have a team of solution architects, marketing, partners at my disposal for support but I’d be responsible to sell the product to an organization where I have industry experience so that helps.
What type of work are you doing at D?
Automation/ AI strategy, a bit of data analytics earlier on
