Disney Streaming Services I completed my interview process with DSS early last week, and was reached out by recruiter that all rounds were strong hires, and they are extending an offer. We set a time to talk on Friday about the offer. However, the announcement of targeted hiring freeze happened on Friday. I was ghosted with no call. What should I expect now? Would I still have chance to be offered?

For starters, don’t say their pronunciation is not “proper.” Accents don’t equate to ability or command of language.
Secondly, actual hard of hearing people deal with this challenge every day — being familiar with one way of pronunciation and then being expose to another and being unable to make sense of it quickly— but it is a physiological inability to understand the words. I ask the person to repeat, or sometimes I parrot what I think I heard, and ask them to confirm. I ensure video is on and I can see faces so I can read lips. It takes quite a bit of effort on my part. Try that.

That’s because I’m friends with your mom and she asked me to get on here and keep an eye on you Are you flossing every night and getting enough fiber? 😉

I am an immigrant and I get what you’re saying OP.
When I first moved here, it was such a pain to listen to clients with thick southern accents and country drawls and make sense of what they’re saying.
This when English isn’t even my first language.
To top that, Americans use a ton of pop culture references (star wars eg) and local idioms that makes things so much more difficult.
The only way is to give it time and with more and more interaction you’ll start getting it. If you’ve identified a couple of accents giving you issues (Russian, Indian, Scottish etc) try listening to stand up comedies or tutorials related to your area of expertise in those accents on youTube.
The more your ear gets used to them, the easier time you’ll have. Good luck!

Thick accents like? Southern accent?
Experience cures this. Maybe get out of your cultural bubble a bit. Thick Indian accents still get me a bit.

I get the double whammy. I'm partially deaf and wear hearing aids, and I regularly interact with people who have all sorts of different accents, albeit usually not in the context of interviews.
From the hard of hearing standpoint, I have to actively listen all the time, and actively focus my attention to what people say, and if I can see their face, read their lips along with listening. It's mentally exhausting doing it day in and day out, but for people who have similar accents as mine, I can typically follow along with no one the wiser.
Throwing accents in there, I often either have to ask them to repeat or say back to them what I thought I heard. Sometimes it turns out that what I thought I heard and what they actually said was quite different.
I'll usually try to repeat it back by saying something like "To make sure we're on the same page, you propose we do XYZ, correct?" You could adapt that practice to interviewing if it comes to that.
Hey accent or not, some people are just hard to understand. Mumbling, not pronouncing, etc
How do you know the interviewer will have a thick accent?
Is it a online or in-person interview?
Many of us struggle with accents if they are too thick, being in the U.K. there are regional accents a mere 200 miles away even if struggle to pick up every word when spoken. It happens, but I do agree from a politeness aspect you can only ask someone to repeat themselves like twice before it looks rude.

Mate, in the UK people 10 miles away can have an impenetrable accent. Also varies by class background.
I think a good practice would be to try to repeat back the question as you heard it and then answer. Don’t get frustrated or flustered, people with accents are very aware they have one. Making your best attempt to understand them and being patient as they rephrase / repeat their question should go a long way.
Are you American? White?
The brutal truth is you’ll have to get over it. If you’re a consultant you have no control over who you end up working with (not just interviewing). A ton of our clients have thick accents and you’re going to have to learn to understand and communicate with them.
It will get easier and the more you speak with people that have accents the more you understand. In the meantime it isn’t rude to ask them to repeat because you want to make sure you’re capturing everything they’re telling you
