No way that in the world of finance comms someone with bank experience would not be seen as a major catch. And as rule of thumb, I'd not trust an HR person. Talk to hiring managers in your network how they would look at a professional with banking experience.

That seems crazy, I just hired someone from a big bank and I’ve worked with others at agencies who had been at banks.
I will say that I get the sense that the pace in banking is SLOW. I see people who come from there have a tough time adapting to a faster pace. But I don’t think it’s a career killer by any means, especially if it is a reputable organization.
I think that's her hesitation, a much slower pace = a stereotype that the individual can't "cut it" elsewhere. Thank you for your perspective!

That's not a death sentence to a career. I've applied to some jobs and they didn't want me, despite the fact that I could have done great in the role, because I didn't have enough fintech or finance experience, with my career focused on tech, healthcare and higher ed .
