Having worked at Accenture and now working at OW in this field, I would say they are pretty equal.
The difference comes in the following:
- OW has a better strategy brand
- Average level of strategic competency of individuals at OW is higher
- Accenture has better client access
- Accenture has better underlying base of Energy expertise; energy transition is not isolated from the Oil & Gas business, it’s where the majority of the work comes from. OW is thin on expertise, but is actively hiring (you will notice the majority of this team are new)
Overall- if you’re choosing between the two, I wouldn’t focus on how strong they are in ET. I would focus on which firm you would prefer to work with from a culture and approach perspective.
Nope - which is why I’m not challenging your experience. I also don’t have any close friends that worked at Accenture.
What I am saying though is that comparing to strategy firms we’re giving a lot of autonomy. And that progression is factually faster than what you’re stating above.
OW's energy practice has a strong standing in Europe (esp. Germany)
In the latest ranking, they are 3rd, just behind MB in Germany
Hi B1, which ranking is this? Would you have a link?
Def an emerging focus area for OW
To add more color: energy team is very closely linked to our growing climate platform. Very interesting finance-energy links (as well as pure energy space)
Growing in Energy and climate is a major goal for us right now. I’d say it’s a good moment to join and grow fast
Huge climate change strategy projects from the FS side, and we have a high profile joint platform between our energy and FS businesses. See our latest report with CDP as well as the Climate Action Navigator on our website!
Take my view with a fistful of salt given that I started here in September / I’m NA, but I’ve seen a weirdly large amount of energy transition projects in our pipeline recently. Really cool work.
Oh right- Understood.
Well as I say, everything I am saying is a personal experience. I suppose because I do work in Energy, it may be a different experience to other parts of the firm.
To the author- if you would like to talk, please do DM me. You never know, we may even know each other!
I work in the FS part, including on climate risk / net zero topics; but could be different in ways of working indeed!
For tech strategy probably Accenture. For all other forms of strategy, Accenture probably already has relationships with the clients even if that type of work has previously not been done there.
Whoa that’s extremely niche.
I always think of Accenture as tech implementations and OW financial
