Me and my wife make 225k together and we drive around the city in a honda civic. These numbers of 1/3 of salary makes me rethink about my car 😂
On a side note though, don't think about the base model. If you are ready to pay for the base, pay a little more and get some more quirks and features
Quirks and features..... Doug is that you?!
I would think like 180k, but why would you want a base model?
Agree w/ IBM1. There’s no set income level. I’m about to buy a 2019 or 20 Macan S. My income is only $90k but I was making $300k before taking a nonprofit job. It’s def a splurge but I’m generally pretty frugal so have money saved up.
Would also agree with others that the Base is fine for city driving and quite nimble. The lack of relative power shows up though when accelerating over 55mph. I also experienced turbo lag on the GTS but found the S a happy compromise. Also keep in mind the maintenance for Porsche is expensive. You might want to do some of the simple items yourself and find a good indie shop for the other things not covered by the Porsche warranty
$140k
It depends. I make $400k and i consider anything above $30k a luxury
Whoa. Total comp? What level and YOE at McK?
If you have to ask this question, you probably don’t make enough…
It’s a goal I’m working towards!
If you go get a housing loan, getting a Macan becomes affordable
No right answer, bought my slightly used Macan GTS at around $150k salary. The base Macan is more enjoyable around town than my car due to turbo lag, and is a still a joy to be in.
But I also live in a meager townhome, love cars and have no kids. There is no set salary/income/savings level where it becomes ok. If you value having a fun car over other things, make it happen!
2017, not certified. Now has 63k miles.
Remember to factor maintenance and insurance. New set of brakes for my Cayenne cost me close to $2k. Faulty trunk motor $1k. Faulty parking sensor $500
The price of the car should be less than 1/2 of your annual take home income. Ideally closer to 1/3.
Also, I refuse to buy cars on note. But that's just me. I think you should buy in cash for many reasons, including controlling your impulse to buy too much car or not negotiate strongly.
Finance at 0% interest - many dealers offer this on new cars
I’m thinking around 150
It's a luxury vehicle. Like all luxury items they are never "sensible" purchases. Doesn't mean they aren't affordable for you, but definitely not sensible
This is dumb. Something doesn’t have to be just what’s necessary to be sensible. If that’s the measure than anything other than a used beater isn’t sensible.
