Either you change jobs or she changes her shift. You have few months to figure it out
Can I ask what is the deal with the au-pair? Why you can’t have one if you are on work permit? I am on H1B and my wife is pregnant so that was one of the ideas that we floated around but I guess is not possible?
We got a live-in nanny. Will cost you approx $2k-$2.5k per month. Not cheap, but worth the peace of mind and the guiltless help!
Can’t get an au pair legally since here on work permit.
find a local project
Move closer to grandparents if that is an option
Changing jobs is the last resort. Would probably rather pay 5k in childcare than do that.
I can try to find a local project but no guarantees! Wife’s shifts will start changing after a year or two but not before.
@P1 - an au pair technically is someone who comes in with you sponsoring their visa (eg european student for cultural learning). As a visa holder yourself you won’t be allowed to sponsor someone else.
The au-pair using the visa route is cheap (have heard 1.5-2k per month)
The alternate is full time nanny but that will cost 2.5-3x I suppose
D1 - does she work fixed hours like 8-5 or something or is it very flexible? Like weekends..
Also, which city? Do you think the 2-2.5k is reasonable for Boston area
And how did you find one? Care.com or anything else?
