What is your work experience? Coming from someone who interviewed at both M and B. These firms including teir 2 are more and more looking at non traditional routes (ie industry hires)
I strongly believe that you can get in (may be an entry level or near entry level) from any background if you network a lot, craft a compelling story, and put a lot of effort into case prep.
I got to final rounds - unfortunately I will try again but I did get a t2 offer.
I opted to pass on MBA. Just saying MBA is a true route but not the only route
By T2 you mean Big 4 consulting?
Its never a solid bet - personally I reccomend Ivey for an MBA, I've found their network to be the most active in supporting students.
It's possible for sure, but hiring from canadian MBA programs at top firms for canadian offices is quite low.
Trouble with a US MBA (assuming that you're looking to work in Canada and are paying full sticker) is that, if you strike out in Toronto office consulting recruitment, the exorbitant cost is tough to swallow.
Wouldn't bet on entering a canadian MBA program to recruit into a top paying consulting firm in canada.
If in Canada, I think Ivey or Queen’s would be the schools to look at. Especially if it’s supplemented by an undergrad in UofT engineering or University of Waterloo engineering/math/computer science. Been seeing that combo a lot recently. Full disclosure, this is just my personal opinion based on a few recent data points.
Rotman grad here. Rotman and Ivey are definitely target schools for MBB and they hand out matching offers across firms and between both schools. B4 ATK and Accenture hire from both schools as well. Offers differ between rotman and schulich for B4 but that’s down to potentially program prestige and that schulich peeps maybe a tad younger and less experienced than rotman (not scientific, just anecdotal)
Ivey/Rotman would be best in Canada IMO. I think you need to have decent grades or GMAT, have some great work experience (at least 4+ years, don’t count internships) and leadership (community, school roles, etc.). Agree with above in that it’s small numbers so can be tricky.
Sorry was talking about getting MBB offer from Ivey/Rotman. I agree with you- I think they both will accept people to their respective programs who aren’t set up for success
QQ - What is your end goal of going to MBB?
If you want to be a career consultant, then by all means do whatever you need to to get there.
But if you’re in it for the exit opportunities, then why don’t you just try to go straight to exit?
SF1. Rotman alum here. Happy to chat
It’s doable, but the MBBs may interview about 15 candidates from Rotman each year so you’ve got to stand out while there, not just get in. For reference the class size is about 350. They will each hire maybe 1-4 each year.
My perspective is that if you’re good enough to get in, then you can do it from some Canadian schools where they recruit.
