I’m not going in. Not a necessary or important risk I’m willing to take. My kids are 7 and 5. Happy to WFH for now and revisit once kids are vaccinated.

I don’t see how that’s a privileged view. If you have the option, then you get to choose. Your ability to choose has nothing to do with a parent who cannot choose.
In fact if those who *can* DID, then we would have to some extent less spread that would inevitably benefit those who have to work in person.

While I understand where people are coming from with these comments the lack of perspective is alarming.
1. The vast majority of Americans do not have the luxury of working remote. So the refusal of the few who do to scream risk on why they can’t go to office comes off super elitist.
2. Glad you are doing great at your remote job. How many hours this week have you spent mentoring the junior talent at your company. Truly teaching them the skills you have so the organization can build talent. You coming to office is not just so you can do your work but create an environment for collaboration and communication.
3. The risk of covid to kids is still very low
4. While the economy is very much in favor the worker now it won’t always be. Your employer pays you to work at their discretion. When the economy turns those who are obstinate will be the first out.
I would implore you to think bigger beyond your family and your job role.
Well, I interact daily with a few senior leaders at EY. So I am well aware of the overall situation, trends, and “junior associates” views.
Your statement that you don’t believe for a second yada yada - I couldn’t care less about your beliefs, so not even continuing this discussion.
And if you are so concerned about the talent pool and the need for the senior management to physically show up at the offices, please tell those “few senior leaders” at EY you know to mandate vaccination for all employees who step foot at the offices. I am certainly advocating for this.

What do you think would be sufficient then?
I think a hybrid work model is the future but I doubt the majority of companies will stay fully remote forever.

My agency went ahead and switched to full remote. We can go into the office if we want, but totally voluntary. Generally people are only going in when needing to use the production room or for a client meeting.
I have a kid in high school (vaccinated) and a kid in elementary. Technically I’m as much of a risk to everyone else as they are to me. And everyone in the company has their own potential exposures. Either we all stay home or we end up potentially closing for days/weeks because it spreads to all of us.
No it’s completely reasonable. Breakthrough cases are possible and happen, so exempting the vaccinated from testing means there’s still a substantial risk of someone having it in office. I’ll be curious to see what the numbers are for how likely an office is to see a case with the vaccine or regular testing model.
I know, considering the vaccine is only 90-95% effective- even if all our coworkers in the office are fully vaccinated- you just know someone in the office will have Covid and what’s worse is they don’t have to be tested so they won’t even realize they are positive! Plus masks are not always required once your vaccinated and with the vaccine you are less likely to show symptoms when you do have the virus so again people coming in with Covid who don’t even realize……just too much at risk to go into the office!
I know of several acquaintances who recently got covid. The adults were vaccinated but families were all infected (kids and vaccinated adults). Not clear who spread it to whom, but I saw a stat yesterday that 30% of new cases are in children.
I have a 1-yr old and my job isn’t requiring we go back because of this (we have moms in leadership). My husband’s job started requiring people go in for 3 days with no vaccine / test mandate. He interviewed for about the past 2-3 weeks and just got an offer for a fully remote role today with more pay and benefits. It’s not worth the risk with small kids. Join the great reshuffle, it’s too early for companies to require parents of young kids to go in regularly.

You are not unreasonable. You have people to protect. Vaccines and testing are only two of the actions that need to taken into consideration. Breakthrough cases are happening. Air quality is hugely important. If aersolized virus can hang in the air for 6 hours, what are they doing about the air exchange rate?
