Amazon folks - need to reschedule an inteview due to an unforeseen work commitment. Wondering if it's going to look bad/impact the interviewing chances if I were to ask for a reschedule? It's taken months of applying to get one so don't want to jeopardize but the current job committment is going to be difficult to get out of (unless I call in sick). Recommendations?

It's a board level dry run I need to oversee. I could call in sick but it's likely going to be very taxing on my schedule/mental readiness
Spin this to a positive. Reschedule the interview with a message similar to “I’m sorry for any inconvenience but I need to reschedule our interview. I’ve recently been told that I’m to lead a presentation for our board. I want to reiterate my interest and excitement for this opportunity, however, I still have an obligation to my current employer that I must fulfill. I’m available at XYZ, would any of those times work for you?”

I just did that. Hopefully they'll understand and accomodate. In fact this deliverable is similar to what I expect the new role at Amazon to be building so the success here would help validate what I can bring across to Amazon - ofcourse they wouldn't know this until we speak
I did paused my recruitment process and they did understood. They gave me the opportunity to continue at the end of the year when new positions roll out
Rescheduling will mean getting on everyone’s schedule again tougher. Given we hire the first inclined, you may be taking yourself out of the running. You may just have to wait for the next role.
