Don't go to IBM it's a sinking ship
Everything
IBM > Accenture tbh. Not saying this just bc i work at IBM but accenture hires too many average joes
IBM 1 are you more of a globo-gym kind of guy? 🤣
IBM is a “sinking ship” in that their profits are not going up because a huge part of it was coming from legacy software and hardware. It still makes more in profits than a bunch of consulting firms combined
I would have to agree with the Accenture guys.... IBM is a sinking ship. So careful about joining IBM, not saying you should not though.
Rising Star
IBM is where careers go to die
Even though it is a sinking ship, the music will play for at least another 20 years...

It is likely better to be joining now than 6-12 months ago, but not as good as potentially 12-18 months from now, depending on how the next 6 months go. My expectation is there will be one more round of big RAs before the end of the year, but I would be surprised if someone was hired and fired between now and December.
In terms of long term analysis; I would consider what you gain. If you’re leveling up, it could be worth it to stay a couple years. If it allows you to make a geo or specialty/practice move, that could be a good reason too.
Personally, I wouldn’t join IBM right now because there is still going to be a lot of volatility. New CEO in April=inevitable shake-up that probably isn’t done (ultimately that’s a good thing for long term health and reversing where IBM has been headed the last 5 years). COVID is causing everyone to tighten belts who isn’t directly profiting; IBM is not an exception. The culture impact of both of these things will be palpable for likely the next 6-12 months. You will also have to onboard virtually which is fine, but harder to build networks.
Congrats on your offer and good luck, friend.
It’s a sinking ship but I will say I do get paid more than some of my big 4 friends (but this is also factoring in things like tech skills and coming from a target school etc.)
For example: I make 110 in a tier two city ~2 years
It’s either on par with other big 4 or even more ( for my friends in risk or tax advisory at b4 )
Because I wasn’t a data scientist to began with and learned the skills on the job and then promoted to that practice also this field is quickly becoming saturated . Also, I wanted to get some consulting” client facing experiences and not be a coder and to be honest I’m not super amazing at comp sci compared to the competition either. there are plenty of technical people in big 4.. why don’t they all work for fanng either? And I’m pretty sure they are also not making 150k+
It pays incredibly well if you’re a new hire
Yeah, IBM still makes a boatload of money (profits), but always at the expense of its (low level) employees, call them the peasants! And it is getting worse, so who would really want to join this company, unless you come in as an exec, then life should be good!
