Got my CIPP/US Cert but am having a hard time switching from Bankruptcy practice to Privacy/Cybersecurity - any advice? Biggest hurdle so far seems to be that firms are looking for experienced mid-levels over more junior associates.

Are you open to not being at a firm?

Understood. Privacy compliance in-house or privacy consulting seems to be the most common and successful way I’ve seen attorneys get into privacy and then they pivot to a counsel role once they have privacy experience. Unless you already have some legal privacy experience it’s going to be hard to land a privacy counsel role since the space is so competitive right now. I personally don’t put any value in the CIPP/US. The only thing that indicates to me is an interest in privacy but since IAPP is targeted at non legal privacy professionals I don’t hold much hope anyone who has it without real privacy experience or law school training knows much about privacy law in a way that would translate to job success

Try a boutique firm or non profit that’s open to training. In-house will be difficult to land as it’s competitive and lots of experienced folks applying. Does your current firm have a privacy practice you can pick up experience from until you find more opportunities?

I’d still advise to try to get some privacy experience at the current firm. Also, have you joined any privacy orgs? I’m happy to recommend some if you have time and interest. It’s a great way to meet privacy leaders and who knows how and when the right opportunity comes up.

Graduated in 2020, wanted to be a graphic designer, took a job at a startup in a social media role. The boss called me the "r" word for not handling entire 13-ish accounts roster well by myself. I quit. Found a role as social media specialist. Realized (again) that I hate social media. Moved to in-house mktg manager, only to be a glorified graphic designer / someone to call the city to cut down trees. I job hopped too much, I feel my portfolio is empty. How do I restart again? Hi everyone, I'm new to the bowl and would like to see if anyone is available to critic my resume. I have 6 years of work experience; 2 years are in Business Development and 4 years in Customer Service.

I am currently unemployed due to Covid-19 and been trying to get a job in Singapore. I want to refocus on my career in Business Development/Marketing and develop from there on.

Appreciate the help.

I’m still in the entry levels of digital marketing and I’m looking to expand my skills. What would you suggest to get certified in or skills / programs to learn.

Really confused with choosing careers-
Product management as next step or Remain in Strategy Consulting of an IT organisation and switch to pureplay strategy firms?

Could anybody please guide what factors would you deliberate on and what kind of personality would suit for these roles?

So i have been fortunate that i have managed to go through my career without the need for a degree. I was lucky enough to have been hired by one of the worlds top consulting firms, worked with a whole lot of big clients and travelled a lot. It's gotten to the point where I am not even asked about the lack of a degree on my resume. Personally though, it bothers me. I have a whole bunch of certifications in my industry…but just no formal degree. (cont'd)
