Depends on what you mean by office administrator and how large the firm is. I started as an office “clerk” at a branch office of a mid size firm but really I was the admin for that branch. I did hiring, accounting, vendor contracts, office expansion construction stuff, etc along with ordering lunches, planning and staffing business development events, ordering supplies and other basic things I split with receptionist like mail sorting and delivery. That was nice in the sense it didn’t require alot of mental work.
Then I become one of three administrators for the firm who managed people in the position I used to have. That ended up feeling mostly like saying no when people wanted money, looking for ways to save money, endless pointless meetings, and just trying to diplomatically manage everybody’s constant, constant, complaints about everyone else.
It’s for a national ID firm. It includes normal HR stuff as well as overseeing accounting, budget, supervise non-attorney staff, oversee in-house and outsourced services, billing processes…. So it does look like it’s be a lot…. But it can’t be as bad as practicing law, right? Lol
Curious about the pay? For non billable work, it could be worth it.
