That's a lot of cases...
Is it? It’s all I’ve known. Worked at this firm thru law school and continued post bar exam. It’s a lot of work, but my case manager is a superstar.
You should be making approximately $150,000 if you’re getting a base salary plus a percentage.
ID or PI?
Either way, however, that’s a shit ton of cases. That’s over 1 trial a month in litigation , which is an absolutely crazy amount.
To me, it sounds like you are managing and need to be compensated for both the management and litigation. $150k is the minimum.
Usually a base plus percentage.
I would say 80k + 10% would be normal for 1mil/year
I would also add that your percentage on litigation cases should be higher than your percentage on pre-litigation cases.
At the risk of sounding like an asshole, if you have three assistants and are grossing only $1M in fees per year you still have quite a bit of room to grow. Managing your cases and maximizing your fee per case is important and is a factor your employer would take into consideration if you asked for a bump in comp. Remember that operating a volume PI firm is a business that costs a significant amount of money to keep going and from the sounds of it, your pod has a decent bit of overhead associated with it.
Is this gross fees collected for the firm, or total settlement amount?
Gross fees. Total settlement is 4.5ish.
100k salary at the least. 10% of firm generated cases. 25% of cases you generated yourself
