Bain & Company I have a second round with Bain & Company coming up at the DC office for Experienced Consultant role. Excited, but hella nervous. Recruiter said it’d be 3 separate interviews, all with Partners; 2 case, 1 fit. About 40 mins each. First round was 2 case interviews with Sr. manager & Associate Partner. Been a rough year, so definitely looking forward to this opportunity. I’ve been on the site and going through preparation and materials. Any advice or suggestions welcomed!

Best interview tip I can give is to get to know everything about the firm and the people interviewing you. Bring that up during the interview.
Well hopefully you’re not interviewing for the same position I am 😂 but make sure you have a solid answer for why you like or are interested in labor and employment. I’ve been an L&E associate for a few years now and have participated in interviews for my firm and people fumble on that question all the time.
Also, get a sense for what type of L&E work your interviewers do because it can vary greatly, and be comfortable with the lingo - e.g., if they do a lot of wage and hour work you should not have a blank stare on your face when they talk about FLSA.

Not mine then (although I have nothing but good things to say about it)! Good luck!

What year? And do you have prior L&E experience?

The best advice for any interviewing is to be engaged in each interview. Don’t be on autopilot or give canned responses- it is very apparent when one does that. Don’t use the same questions everyone uses, come up with good questions that are relevant to the firm and practice.

A few suggested questions from a junior L&E associate (always the most dreaded part of an interview when they ask you what you want to know):
Is the group primarily litigation oriented or is there a lot of employer advising?
Are clients diverse in terms of industry or does the group specialize (e.g., retail clients vs large corps vs small doctors offices)?
If lit-heavy, is the work concentrated in a particular area or specialty? Wage and hour? Unfair competition? ADA? Class action defense? Plain old Title 7? Etc.
What is the partner to associate ratio in the group?
Adding to these excellent questions: caseload and level of supervision. Varies hugely between P/D, and within each.
