I had mine pierced but I took it out too… I miss it too. It probably closed by now too.
Mine is. Really debating repiercing it - especially after reading this thread
I don’t but a super successful environmental lawyer I worked with in big law had one and she rocked it with no complaints.
I don’t think anyone cares about this lol. So many of my colleagues have nose piercings.
I suppose it depends on your clientele. I wouldn’t hire an attorney with a nose ring. But I’m old school. If you’re entire clientele is under 30 or you do criminal defense, it’s probably not an issue—except probably with most judges who also tend to be old school.
Prof, why are you even looking that closely at people’s noses? I’ve known people for years before noticing they have a stud.
I don’t see posts claiming that nose rings are “cool.” It seems people are merely surprised by your reactionary comments.
I’m a government litigator in federal court. I have a nose ring and a very large tattoo. I usually leave the nose ring in and nobody has said anything. The tattoo is usually covered by a blazer.
Thank you! Some people act like it is simply beyond their comprehension that anyone who gets a tattoo or piercing could be a successful professional, and I don’t get it.
Keep it in. Be you.
I have a stud and haven't had an issue. Most ppl don't seem to notice tbh
I have both a small stud and visible tattoos and it’s never been a problem. I do cover my tattoos when meeting clients, but I don’t take out my nose ring. FWIW I practice civil litigation at a large west coast firm.
I have a small nose stud and usually keep it in.
My friend who is an attorney just got her nose pierced and she's in court all the time without any issue
As a South Asian woman, I’ve never thought twice about this and can’t imagine anyone bringing it up to me as an issue—likely for obvious reasons. I’m transactional but did extern for a (progressive) judge about 6-7 years ago, no issue there either.
I have a double nose piercing for two very petite hoops (on a single nostril). I take them out and insert clear/non-noticeable plastic studs for trials, in person hearings/depos/mediations (bc on zoom/google meets you literally can’t see my piercings). I also have tattoos; however they are all covered up unless it’s a casual day in the office and I’m not seeing anyone/having any important court appearances/depos/mediations. I’ve had this/have done this as a Prosecutor…when I did complex civil litigation defense… and now practicing family/employment/plaintiffs civil litigation. It’s literally never been an issue no matter what area of law I practice in….even on the rare occasions that I’ve forgotten to take out before going to Court. Many of my colleagues have the same and even quite a few judges have tattoos or a more alternative style, so it’s not completely looked down upon in NM. At least not in my personal experiences.
I (2nd year (F)) have a hoop in my nose and have had it the entire time I’ve been with my firm. No one has ever mentioned it to me! But I also very rarely go into court and would likely take it out for court appearances.
Anyone here with a small wrist or forearm tattoo…want to get one done but I’m terrified
I have tattoos on my arms but I keep them hidden at work. Also have smaller ones on wrist and ankle that are visible
It usually depends where you practice. Here in Texas, it would be an issue.
I’ve worked in county & federal court in AZ, TX and it would be an issue for some judges, fwiw. A small stud wouldn’t be a big deal, but a hoop would probably raise some eyebrows, alongside large visible/colorful tattoos. Unfortunately still very old school in most courthouses.
I have a nose piercing but I am also brown so it is a religious/cultural thing for us. No one has ever said anything to me! WEAR IT!
