Anyone else get depressed/frustrated with how much better of a lawyer they could be with more time? I guess being good while being quick is part of the skill set but when I take depositions or write briefs I constantly think how much better I know I could do with more time. I have all sorts of lofty goals/ideas for drafting discovery, briefs, preparation for court, etc … and yet when it comes down to it, I can only give everything my best first effort. Just filed something that was B- work.

The way my work quality would be top tier if I had half as many cases. It really seems like in this profession you’re either paid a shit ton of money to be a glorified paralegal for years before you’re given any real responsibility or you’re thrown to wolves to be overworked and underpaid with no time to truly develop greatness. Would be nice if moderation on both fronts were built into this field.

All the time. Imagine if we had a week off to do case management as opposed to motion, hearings, depos, etc.

Hi friends! I’m looking for resources to help me be successful in a “Functional Lead” role.

The role is in FinTech
I’m responsible for strategy, comms and key partnerships for a bank product. It reports through Customer Experience but touches product, Ops. marketing. It’s basically a Project Manager role but more nuanced.

Anyone out there in a role like this? Any books. videos or even best practices to share?

I am an associate at an AM200 firm and was (IMO) very clear prior to accepting this role that I value work-life balance and wanted to try to keep work at night on the weekends to a minimal, but since February, it seems like it’s always something that requires my time as needed disregarding “business hours” or my personal schedule. Thoughts on whether to bring this up or continue to be a team player until I burn out and pay off my student loans?
