I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

It took me almost an entire year to finally get an offer- sent out over a hundred applications, got maybe a handful of interviews, and had someone review my resume, cover letters, and interviewing skills. (Also in litigation but public interest). It honestly just takes time - every time I got a rejection I felt very dejected and cried a LOT. I had to keep pushing myself to keep churning out applications. I started to just give myself a break and take time for myself instead of spending all my time on applications and it helped a little. Good luck I hope you get a bite soon!
I would be happy to have a conversation to see if there’s anything else I can recommend. As a recruiter, I may have a different perspective. Message me if you would like to set up a call.
Job searching is demoralizing and emotionally draining. Might be time to ask for help. Reach out to someone to review your resume, do a practice interview or for networking help.
I’ve already done all of that 😀
I think the hot lateral market is verrrry specific to certain areas like m&a and corporate not a ton of other hot practice areas. Maybe employment and real estate but hard for bankruptcy, litigation etc.
I’m transactional in a specialized field and had multiple offers within three weeks of looking. My old firm still hasn’t replaced me or the other transactional attorney that left shortly before me and are actively looking.
I started a month ago and haven't even cracked a screener door yet. I'm in lit and a junior, but trying to switch into corporate. Gonna keep chugging along but definitely feeling pretty bleak despite everyone telling me to just apply because of the hot corporate market.
What year are you? What type of law? How are you searching/applying?

Yes, second the above questions. What level are you and type of practice?
