I am an ex-consultant. I have been depressed in the past when I was a consultant. Used to breakdown all the time. Didn’t realized it was depression for a long time. Exercise definitely helped. Opening up to my close friends helped as well. I am an Indian woman and found it hard to find a therapist i could relate to. So speaking with my closest friends about it felt like therapy. I also tried a keto diet which made a who lot of difference (weight loss, clarity and general happiness may be because of the weight loss)
I moved out of consulting and that definitely helped too

What was also helpful was to know that I wasn’t alone. Knowing that in itself made a whole lot of difference.
You are not alone OP. Just tell that. This is not as simple as people make it sound. It took me 2-3 years to feel like my old self again. Not sure how long this phase will last. But any time you feel down tell yourself this too shall pass.
Hey yeah.. let me know if you just need someone to hear you out
Thank you
I think finding the right therapist will help. I have recommendations if you need of one who works virtually
Thank you. I was able to find one, but would still love the recommendation. I haven’t heard of virtual therapists before.
After a multi-year intense project ended, I was overwhelmed with feelings of questioning my purpose and was suddenly wishing to not wake up in the morning — this is super unlike me. I’m normally the happy energetic optimist. I freaked myself out that I was so down and thinking about not living anymore and started seeing a therapist and eventually got on antidepressants. Is anyone going through this? Any advice on how to continue with work? I just don’t know if consulting is sustainable for me anymore
Thank you
Thanks, M1
Thanks, SC1. Sorry to hear you went through that. Was your LT disability paid? I’m considering a sabbatical, but that’s only paid at 20% for 16 weeks. Did you get a doctors note saying that you needed time off?
Thanks, A1. Seeing a therapist and working out unfortunately didn’t help me. I ultimately had to go on antidepressants (which I hated doing), but I had to weigh being suicidal with getting help. I think having my doc tell me about neurotransmitters and all that helped me realize it was out of my control. I’m happy to hear you were able to benefit though. I wish it would have worked for me... it definitely would have been cheaper!
DM if you feel low or need someone to talk to.
