Anyone feel like biglaw cured their depression? Since you're constantly slammed with work, you never have time to think about anything else.

It did for me - I have always been an introvert and especially hated Friday nights as a 2l/3l sitting at home doing nothing while the cool kids partied - now I can spend my evenings doing something productive and billing hours - my loner introvert personality is the perfect fit for this job

News flash: there were no cool kids in law school.

Well, that's different...usually adds to the depression and burning out.

Yes, happens to me actually when I’m extremely busy. Just no time to think or feel anything else.

Well, how do you feel once the work stops?

That’s why you make sure the work never stops. You make partner.

Finally someone feels the same!

Moving to a busier firm actually helped my ADHD, which helps keep depression in check. Everything is urgent and novel in big law and after a busy day of bouncing around between matters, I sleep well. I savor my free time on weekends and evenings (though these are admittedly rare).

Thanks in advance.

Hey, guys. I’m just wondering: do you ever feel like you’re drowning in all the new marketing trends? Like, you read something new every day that you have to try out, but it’s hard to keep up with all the changes?

I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

I recently had an interview with HCL and cleared 2 rounds of technical interview. I waited for a week for HR call but no such call was received. I then contacted the POC who scheduled the interview (he is an HCL employee) and he said that I have been shortlisted and will receive HR call shortly. This was 1 week ago and I have still not received any call. Has anyone else faced the same issue? And if yes, should I even expect a call fro HR?

Beginning to consider going in house (4th, corp) - I really haven’t thought about what I want, partly because I’m not sure what’s out there/attainable. Is it a bad idea to start by applying to a couple positions that interest me and seeing where that gets me? I’ll of course prep for the interviews but am afraid to burn potential bridges if I ultimately decline because I’m still figuring things out.

From a vault ranking perspective, is it safe to assume V100 is all sweatshop big law? Reason I ask is because I want to lateral but not to a gunning big law firm — want to stay in big law but not at the ones at the top of the food chain like I am now. Want some sort of work life balance and wondering if the “lower ranked” big law firms offer this? Could just be my fantasy though…
