I keep working towards certifications for skills that I want while benched but what good is a certification when you don’t actually get to use it you know? Anyone have any tips on what to do? Feeling super unmotivated at work too because I’m not enjoying it
So relatable
Being a first year consultant is gonna be tough especially right outta college. I would say try networking up with people in areas you’re interested in and see what kind of path they took to get where they’re at today. That’s the nice thing about consulting IMO. You’re surrounded by talented folks that have vast experience. Once you identify an area you want to specialize it, you can then work on the steps to progress your career in that direction. I’m 4 years into consulting and I’m still iffy on what I want to specialize in but I have a general idea of what I like to do after consulting.
I’ve also learned that some firms just don’t have good projects. So it may be difficult to grow in areas that interest you. I was stuck on projects where I was a call center monkey. It suck at times. After a year in, I would revisit your options to see if another firm is a better fit or see if you can transfer internally to another consulting area w diff projects.
Same here been here for two years and still feel like I haven’t grow as much as I wanted to haha
Second this
I have this issue. I can't land a job because every recruiter wants more experience. I got laid off last month at my 1 year mark.
Me too! It’s so hard out here
100% how I feel. Even worse because I got a job in workday consulting right out of college and it’s such a niche field I don’t know how to get out of workday
I feel this. I am also in a software specific consulting and It’s so hard to pivot to anything else and for me, I was working with a software that isn’t generating a lot of business right now so I’m struggling
Yes
Yes, moving soon
Yes I’m applying for new roles
Been here for 4 years and sometimes feel that way. When I look at corporate roles I find roles hard to come by because I’ve been all over the place in my roles here
Yup..started looking at other places to see the requirements and skills needed and I feel like i’ve barely learned half of them between bench time and unimportant roles in projects
