Took the GA bar in 2023, but I did just take (and pass) the Florida bar last July. I also did not take time off from work. I started studying after Memorial Day. I did not buy a full bar prep course from Themis, Barbri, etc. I exclusively used the What’s The Issue? Florida course and the bar exam masters multiple choice bank. Florida publishes all of their past essays and sample answers for free online. I studied 2-3 hours each week day and 6-7 hours per day on the weekends. Passed with a very comfy margin. With that being said, if I’d had to retake the MBE portion, I probably would have just taken a full bar prep class. Happy to answer any questions you may have.
Intense. It’s far more involved than GA too. Give yourself plenty of time to get all of it done before the filing deadline. They have to RECEIVE everything before the filing date to avoid the late fees (which are STEEP). I made the mistake of waiting too long to have my fingerprints done… even though I had them completed before the deadline, since they didn’t receive it until after the deadline, I still had to pay the late fee.
I practiced for 8 years in Ohio before taking the Florida bar. Best decision I’ve ever made. I was working full time when I took Florida, so I had limited time to study. I used Barbri materials at my own pace.
Are you currently practicing down there now? Also- what does their character & fitness look like? I heard that even a simple speeding ticket from 20 years ago is something they need to get documentation on. Much more involved than NYs process
Can’t waive in FL bar after 10 years of practice?
FL does not have reciprocity
I took the Florida bar straight out of law school so I don’t know what tips would be good for some who has already practiced law. But I can say that I used barbri and adaptibar. I busted my ass for three or four months and passed by a few points.
The attorneys that I know that did not pass the Florida bar exam the first time, all of them skipped one of the Florida essays.
I went through the same process quite a while ago. If you’re interested in discussing or serious about moving to Florida to pursue your career, DM me
