A friend got an exciting offer from company A, but had an interview with company B the next day. He really wanted company B, but company A was far too amazing to risk losing the offer on. He interviewed at company B on a Friday, and told them company A gave him an offer that expires Tuesday, and that without something in writing from company B prior to that, he would take the job.
Got the written offer Monday morning.
Yep. Has happened several times to me. Tell them your situation, that you are excited about the prospect but also have to make a decision by X date and see how they respond. One thing I've learned is the decision usually makes itself. One of the opportunities usually has a huge flaw or deal breaker like salary, location, or I just don't get all the good vibes from everyone, particularly my boss (which is #1 in any job in my opinion) OR the other prospect doesn't want you bad enough to hurry up and make an offer that's competitive after the interview. If they hesitate at all once you tell them you have a good offer on the table, it's not for you and you can feel 100 about taking the first one. Every great job I had they told me when I left the interview they wanted me and I had an offer that evening or next morning. Picking an employer is like any relationship, when it's right, both parties know immediately and it's not forced and you don't doubt the decision or feel like maybe you missed out on something better. It's a great position to be in. 😊
Yep. Accepted an offer by the time a dreamier agency wanted me to come in and meet the the team. Regrets.
At the end of the day it's your life. If something more attractive comes along after you accept somewhere else, go see what this other opportunity is about and weigh your options later.
