Has anyone successfully transferred from USDC to Core? If so, did you keep rank and salary level or go down a step?
My colleague spent 2-3 years to officially transfer to core from USDC despite Deloitte choosing to staff them on core projects and travel 100% their entire career so far. When they finally did transition to core had to move down to BA level despite that they're still doing SC work.
You got to be a super star performer. Not impossible. You should find a partner who is willing to do that for you. Essentially you should justify why more money + travel costs + diff group for you.
USDC is heavily technology and implementation focused. Can be seen as less prestigious based on who you are talking to. Training and onboarding are less at USDC and you don’t get to go to DU. USDC folks can and often do travel as much as Core, but as it’s not built into their expectations and have the option to say no if it’s not possible
I agree with C1
I’d say make sure you are ok with being in the USDC when you take the offer (lower pay than core, less independence, less travel...mostly) because even if you are able to transition, it won’t be immediate
Understood. Thanks for the advice D5
I guess travel. USDC folks I know travel much less
Agreed with D1...USDC travel is supposed to be 30% or less but the current group I work with travel fewer than 4 weeks a year....but if you want to travel and gain status and fun travel benefits than deff join core
OP- I did. It’s a long and difficult (practically impossible) process but I’m one of 3-4 ppl who succeeded. Since I asked, I kept my salary and level and not no COL adjustment. If your partner requested the move, then you do get COL adjustment
USDC to core switch is difficult. Definitely want to get a partner to vouch for you, but USDC leadership will try to keep you under their roof if you’re a strong performer. I know of multiple people who just got tired of waiting around to make the switch and just left the firm
D4- I had to move for family reasons and agree with D5 on facing resistance from USDC leadership. It got to the point where I was about to leave and then things worked out. I was able to move because I had a strong top heavy network that made it possible, but got no support from my USDC leadership. My project was understanding of my situation but not willing to pay the extra cash for my billing rate, so would not support the move.
If you do get partner support on your project (not non-project partner support like me) you would negotiate that during the discussion. I’ve seen it both ways, where someone has moved and uprooted their family so they could switch to Core in a different city, in same office as partner and project location. Also, where they have stayed put but their home and are now aligned to the closest Core office and they continue to travel and work as if nothing has changed.
Side note - I’m surprised to hear you got more money in your USDC offer because I have been told by delivery center folks that their pay is less than core.
Many ppl aren’t aware but the promotion schedule for USDC is not the same. It’s not up or out, which has stability benefits, but you can easily stay in a role for years without so much as a blink. Also, as it’s less attrition due to ppl being local with families established it can get more crowded causing less opportunities for promotion
"Fun Travel Benefits"? What are they?
OP: what group in EY are you moving from?
D4: Very helpful! Sounds like partner buy in is everything. When you made the switch did you have to relocate?
@D2 - Tons of hotel and airline points which translate into many free vacations along with alt travel opportunities.
To be clear, my offer in is USDC, not Core. The comparison is with the offer I have and my current comp at EY. I just wanted to understand how Core was different than USDC as Core is closer aligned to my current role at EY
I’ve heard in the AMA that USDC has less parental leave and PTO benefits as well.
Many are upset about these differences. I think it will be a focus area to change in the coming fiscal year
