I interned in ops and it was the worst role ever. I was actually really impressed with the culture (hard working but collaborative, not as cut throat as I thought).
But the ops department just repeats menial tasks all day. As a VP you’ll just sit in meetings where people tell you about how many menial tasks were completed and come up with plans to do menial tasks faster.
And when I say menial I mean truly should-be automated task (e.g., entering data from a paper onto the computer, etc)
Finally, back-office roles are second class citizens
Goldman is heavily a work culture, no matter the group. I have no info on that specific type of work or comp though as I was in a very different group.
Agreed with the above statements^ if you’re going to Goldman, shoot for a FO role. BO roles there are just gonna be like any other bank.
Is this in NY, Salt Lake City, elsewhere? My project involves some work with GS ops people and those in salt lake are online at 7am local time do deal with the east coast time frame. I deal with one person in ops change management and she is constantly chasing down people via email on deliverable timelines.
