Anyone have tips on quitting during maternity leave/not going back to your job?

I’m on mat leave for my 3rd and we decided to move closer to family (across the country) I’m in house under full RTO so I will have to quit and get a new job. I love my current job but not where we live and have no family here.

How and when did you give notice? I don’t want to give up any of my paid leave so was thinking of letting them know 2 weeks before the mat leave ends…

What’s a good baseline amount to keep in a checking account? I generally keep mine pretty low <1000 after paying CCs then dump the rest in savings. As I’m building a rainy day fund and then I will start contributing my brokerage account.
