Anyone here ever had to tell someone at work not to talk about politics? This came up a few times over the post few weeks and I had to tell my colleague that it isn’t really nice to talk about since people have different political views and work isn’t the time nor the place for it.

Omg good for you! I suffer through political conversations endlessly at work, and even though I feel like I'm making it apparent I do NOT want to talk about politics, nobody will shut up about it. What ever happened to people not talking about politics and religion? I think it's so rude to assume someone else has the same beliefs as you

like

I think it is rude/disrespectful too! Thanks for the feedback!

Bold of you to do that 👏. I always find myself going mute or completely digressing when someone brings up politics. The furthest I've gone is asking a coworker if he never gets exhausted of talking and thinking about politics all the time, and they got the hint.

like

Very good!! And thank you for the kind words!

All the time

Man that must suck! Sorry to hear that!

Yep I have totally had to do that before and I have no problem doing so. Work isn't really a place to talk about politics and it drives me nuts when people bring it up because it makes so many of us uncomfortable. Someone always ends up taking it too far.

Good for you! We have to stand up and tell these people firmly/respectfully!

Did you ask a follow up question as to where you and your colleague stand with the deadline for the work you were both doing? That should suggest that whatever the topic you are much more focused on your work right now and don’t have time for whatever else unless it pertains to work. Otherwise, careful about stating what can, can’t, should, shouldn’t be said unless it is stated as policy. Remember that people are policy. There’s a very fine line drawn that if crossed could end up working against you. The last thing you want is to alienate yourself or workers you may need.

I’m have a new theory about why juniors always feel like idiots and wanted to see if anyone else thinks this makes sense. I’m a third year, and am the most junior person all of my teams (generally me, a senior or two, and a partner or two), and I always feel like I’m messing something up. Is this just because I never get to work with other juniors and don’t see the mistakes they make, and that it’s relatively normal? And FWIW I went to HYS and I’ve had a clerkship so it’s not like I’m not smart

What you should do when dealing with a very toxic worker that keep on sending passive aggressive messages to you as well as in group chat and email.
Things like when you answer his question he respond: I know that
Or when he keeps on saying my change requests were just minor in group meeting but actually not.
And keep on saying how hard he works when he clearly wasn’t and already underperformed compared to an intern level.

How to not let this toxic co-worker not poison me any further?

Junior here. How common is it to be nudged off a brief when you can't get ideas through internally? My partner and I are often put on the same briefs as more experienced (sometimes senior) teams. As a result, their work tends to make it through to the client presentation while most of ours dies somewhere along the way from CD to CCO. Is this worth worrying over?
