I have the preferred. Annual fee for reserve wasn’t worth it for me especially if not traveling as much as I used to
I have it. It can be worth it if you travel a lot and can get reimbursed for your travel. They have an option to use your points to pay off the annual payment now so you can subsidize that based on your spending. If you’re interested in the card, I can refer you. When I used to travel more, I racked in so many points and got a lot of things with my rewards: AirPods Pro, AirPods max, $500 on gift cards, Free international flights.
But, if you’re not traveling multiple times each year, definitely not worth it.
Reserve’s higher fee schedule and the markup on their travel booking site made me move to Venture X. VX also has free AUs vs paid for SR, so my wife can use the card as well.
Thank you. I don’t think I will be doing much travel or purchases that will offset the annual fee with CSR. I think the C1VX is a better option. I already have my global entry. I’m much more interested in the no foreign transactions fees and access to the lounges.
It’s not worth it to most people in my opinion. I personally have it because I travel and eat out a lot and my SO and I funnel all of our points through the pay-yourself-back feature at 1.5x.
PYB with the CSR is 1.5x
I think the CSR right now is a lot worse than the other two premier travel cards (C1VX and Amex Plat). C1VX seems best for pure savings value and Plat seems to have the best lounge offerings and reimbursements.
I find Amex Plat benefits too restrictive. I loved Reserve when I was traveling a lot and it paid me back handsomely. With the higher fee and lower travel, I switched to C1 VX…I think it’s the best middle path
The CSR 550 annual fee has a 300 travel credit.
This travel credit applies to anything from filling GAS into your car to taking the subway, lyft, or Uber. It also covers AIRLINE TICKETS (not just seat selection or airline incidentals, like AMEX plat).
If you do any of those in a year and it adds up to at least $300, the CSR’s annual fee is effectively just $250.
If you want tsa or global entry, that’s covered too. So additional $100 credit every 5 years, which brings the fee down to $230 per annum.
I agree with the rest here: CSR lounge options via PP are horrible. Amex plat any day for that, but amex plat makes it very difficult to extract value from the 600 ish annual fee. Venture X is probably your better bet, and a no-brained option if your home airport is DFW.
