I just started this year as I find it cheaper to buy land and build vs buy right now. I am working with a local builder whom I know from properties they have built around town. I spent time with them walking through my goals and plans. They are soup to nuts, handle all the dirt zoning, site planning and contract surveyors, all construction. I’ve read a number of books on development (traveling and I don’t recall them off the top of my head) and have found good resources on YouTube as well. I would start talking to builders. Buy a lot. That force you to focus
Thank you for your response D1- for you or anyone else, how do you handle gaining community support for the project(s), or is that generally not a big issue? I’m looking to add 12 units which isn’t huge but definitely is above the threshold in this bedroom community where neighbors will care. I have started paying attention to local groups on facebook where new development are often debated, and generally I get the sense that any development will be rallied against in this area. I plan to make them more affordable than other local new multi-units and consistent with the surrounding neighborhood in terms of style, but what else can I do to pre-empt potential opposition?
