Anyone know about professional attorney position at Goodwin - how different is it from associate track for a mid level attorney? How reduced are salary and hours?

Just out of curiosity, have you ever started a new job and thought what the hell am I getting myself into?!?
If it was the wrong fit how long did you grin and bear it? 6 months / 1 year / longer?
Did it get better with time or worse? (For instance just a case of lack of know-how)
If you left did you find securing a new job difficult due to only being there for so little time?

For those of you that have your own book of business (big or small), how did you go about getting your own clients? I do not live in the state that I grew up in/went to college in so most of my connections are law-school related. Even if I did, I grew up in a blue collar town so any connections I do have there wouldn’t materialize into a client base. Sign-on bonus:10k

Any tips for building a client base from scratch? I’m a 4th year associate at a firm of 12 attorneys. I practice in business, compliance, and real estate (primarily on partners’ files) and don’t litigate. Most of the partners’ clients are wealthy friends or friends of friends (not my circle). Associates are not referred business, even cold calls, and so far “networking” events like Chamber of Commerce luncheons have been a bust. I equate a book to autonomy and career choice and pressure is on.
