Apply. Those year requirements are just guidelines for the perfect candidate. You only need to be better than the people who do apply.
Rising Star
Apply sometimes places are looking at a hard stop with those requirements but more often in my experience it’s a guideline. My current job they were looking for someone with at least 10 years of experience. They hired me with 4. My boss said I had the most relevant experience for the job even though I had less years practicing law.
Just apply and use any connections you might have. I had less than a year of experience (covid layoff) when I got my current job and the posting was looking for someone with 3-5 years experience. I was familiar with two people at the firm and asked them directly if they’d consider someone more junior and it worked.
Do it
Apply! For one thing, the numbers are oftentimes just general guidelines. Unless the job ad says something like “Do not apply unless you meet every requirement,” assume there is a bit of wiggle room. For another thing, sometimes firms remember previous applicants when they are hiring again. So it doesn’t hurt to try to get yourself on their radar early.
Apply. I have never met all the requirements of a job I was hired for. Don’t self-select yourself out.
