Anyone live in Downtown LA? How is it really? I know skid row is around the corner but I'm from ATL and see homelessness daily. I'm also a male who's rather "hip".

With that said is DTLA that bad?

"hip"...uh huh.

likefunny

I’m a sucker for that.

I grew up there and spent the first 15 years of my career in LA. My advice to anyone moving there: live as close as possible to where you work.

Downtown LA is an enigma. Tons of cool bars, museums, restaurants, sports, music, culture, etc. However, tons of homeless and mentally ill people who need assistance—but LA police/government do nothing. So, in other words, it will never be boring. 😎✌🏼

like

Manhattan/Hermosa Beach, Culver City, Palms, Santa Monica, West Hollywood. Downtown LA is NOT like NYC or Chicago. And I grew up in LA.

like

I would love to see a photo of what a “male who’s rather hip” looks like.
Because “rather hip” is how my dad would describe an equally old person who has an earring or wears a leather jacket, or something like that

likefunny

I’ve been living in DTLA for about 2 years. Dtla is composed of many sub-neighboods. Your experience varies depending on which block you live on. If you want hip, the Arts District will be like Williamsburg in a couple years. South Park is where all the new luxury rentals are. Just stay below 8th st and don’t go past Broadway. Dtla is only worth staying if you don’t commute that far. Spotify and honey are some of the big companies moving in. But the expo train from dtla will take you to the new google and amazon offices Honestly, I love it here but the future of dtla is still in doubt

like

I freelanced/lived there for a month last year. Sucked. Not much culture, dining is eh. A couple cookie cutter mall/shopping areas. There are SO many better areas to live in LA.

like

It all depends on where you have to commute to...

like

google map your commute during times you would commute and ask yourself if you could really commute that commute. lotta creatives live in the eastside cus it’s cool but the drive west for work is brutal. really a personal choice.

and while public transit is limited, if your work/home is close to the expo line (light rail), that was my smoothest experience.

I lived in downtown LA for 4 years in an 1800 square foot giant artist loft and it was amazing. I never lived there because the neighborhood was hip, because it wasn't. However, because it wasn't, nobody much paid attention to what we were up to and we could do just about any thing we wanted to. People in our building had every tool you could ever want, plus a circus, sound stage and recording studio. Having that much space to live and work was a special time and we made many projects for many reasons at a fraction of what it costs to live there now. And I didn't work on the westside to often. There is an Express bus from downtown that goes to SM with no stops, and it was legit the fastest way to cross town during rush hour, 30 minutes. I used that when I did work in Santa Monica. That's the only part of LA with lofts from warehouses that are zoned live-work and that large.

like

It’s hip to be square. (Google it, kids.)

Born and raised in LA.

DTLA was basically a microcity in a city in that nearly every block is it’s own neighborhood. I agree with Designer 1’s assessment. Sadly a lot of shit I loved about DTLA is gone now. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If you have a car (and I recommend this in LA whereas a lot of other cities it’s not needed) I’d live close to DTLA but not DTLA proper: Echo Park, Silver Lake, Koreatown are great. If you want a clean and quiet place to sleep, Glendale is closer than what a lot of Los Angelinos want to admit, though a lot of Glendale residents are awful at driving so ya gotta watch out for that.

like

It’s dirty. Was not impressed. LA has better/cooler neighborhoods

Silverlake

So. Much. Traffic.

Koreatown. All day.

Hi, I'm leaving Citi in 2 months. It's hard to make this decision. I have an offer from a small startup. In citi, my previous experience was not considered and was reskilled to different tech which is the reason for change.I don't like to exit citi. As I like the company so much. But considering my current knowledge,I am in the middle of the sea.I am afraid now that the new company's offer would be revoked due to this recession?Or can I take back my resignation in citi before the last working day.Is this wise decision?
