If you are unemployed and your emergency/reserve funds are running low, consider taking the contract position while you continue to look for FTE roles.
Years ago, I accepted a 6 month contract to hire position and decided to leave at 6 months. I was a high performer but my manager wouldn't pull the trigger on the conversion. Within two months of leaving, the parent company decided to close that division of the organization.
Considering that you don't receive standard benefits when working contract roles, try to negotiate the best rate. If you take this role and enjoy it, move on if the company hesitates to transition you to an FTE w/in a reasonable time period.
I would take it if you have no other options. You can still look in the meantime and I don’t think the short duration will look bad as you can always explain it as due to being a short-term contract role.
I think that's where about where I'm at. I don't mind proving myself as a contract hire initially, I just don't want it to be a forever thing. I think I'm feeling conflicted because I know I'm going to keep looking after accepting and if I end up finding something in a few weeks, I'll feel bad about having to leave so soon after starting.
They are not providing you with benefits or job security that is making your life worry-free, no need to feel bad and be overly worried about theirs.
Yes I have many times. I have always gotten an offer later so it worked out. Some people I know were not as lucky
