11 months. Looking to get out.
I only lasted 10.5 months. 😮💨
Looks like you are a Senior Accountant at said startups. How do you like your new role? Was it a difficult transition with only a few months experience but schooling?
Yes a year & a half in.. I have a recruiter that just reached out to me for an accounting position. Definitely thinking about leaving. & getting accounting experience while I can.
Others have Im just interested in this 1 position
I lasted 1.5 years… much more than I thought I could tbh. But now I don’t know what I want for a job. I hated tax
All of it, except the people. I really liked the people I worked with
Going on 5 years this year and I will say. This feeling doesn’t go away. To be honest, leaving public accounting vs staying doesn’t really make a difference if you are like me. Aka not wanting to be an accountant. I stayed for the experience so I can get into a top mba program to get out of accounting in general. Good luck!
Can you tell me more about your plan? I am trying to get out of accounting. How will the mba help? What after getting an mba?
What are your main reasons? Are you on the tax prep side? Do you plan on going into IA?
The hours… yes prep side of tax. Not sure what I want to do next but I don’t mind staying in tax if I can find something that isn’t controlling my life.
15 years. The one time I tried getting out, the guy who hired me passed away (cancer) and back I went.
I can’t do this anymore. I need out.
I’m 1 year and 3 months and looking to go
9 months and can not wait to leave!
leaving this week after 1 yr 2 months!
I've bounced back and forth between industry and PA... both have their pluses and minuses (been doing this 17 years). If you're in a bigger firm, it might be worthwhile to explore other areas to work in... after a year, the job market in industry is competitive... but after 3-5 years (and a license) you have more earning power, and fewer competitor applicants. Granted you may have given up some earning potential in the intervening years...
Also, industry jobs tend to have some big drawbacks you don't expect... such as 0 training and management expecting you to know everything you've never done before. And wearing "a lot of hats" aka being HR/IT or managing all the insurance or some other tasks.
think this would mainly be lower and middle market companies. larger organizations are typically more sophistocated
Same work is boring, the people suck and the hour demand is trash.
Just keep in mind there's much more to PA then audit!
I’ve been here for almost 5 years and I had it, I’m done with PA, this busy season has been the worst for me.
It’s not worth it if you don’t love it. I moved to consulting after a couple of years because BTS just wasn’t worth it to me anymore and I needed out. There’s no shame in leaving, PA isn’t for everyone (in fact it’s not for most people).
