Other so called POC are often more racist than whites, and are free from any “white guilt”. Look at the way lots of those people treat the black populations in their own home counties. Black people are often martyrs for the social justice issues of others who could give a damn about them.
I agree with this. There's the guilt factor that (Shows some conscience, I think) other POC do not share because they did not directly enslave the black folk of their countries. However they fail to draw the parallels between the discriminating and feeling of superiority that they share against us
There is a Latino person in my office who is definitely racist towards black people and is at least more vocal about it than any white person in the office that I've noticed.
I'm not on their team anymore. But full disclosure, I'm white and part of this bowl to try to understand other's perspectives.
I didn’t know racism till I left Africa. Boy oh boy!!
1- My first experience was in UAE, i was 23 years and travelled out of Nigeria for the first time to celebrate my birthday.
I was pulled out of the queue at the Abu Dhabi airport and searched about 6 times consecutively. It was like they really wanted to find something. I was not the only black person in line but everyone that were pulled out for further checks were black folks.
I have had a lot of crazy racist experience especially from non-white folks.
My biggest disappointment was when I arrived America to see that a lot of blacks in America actually made fun of Africans. This was in 1999, before it was cool to be an African.
Man!!! It was rough but I wouldn’t change anything.
I can’t speak for everyone but from my personal perspective, I believe Blacks in Africa have no opinions of black Americans until they come to the United States. When I arrived in 1999, I saw black Americans as my brothers and sisters and I was always eager to learn their culture. Unfortunately, I never really got the love back. My black colleagues at sears would make fun of my accent, I was the least desired by the women, my son was bullied in school and called “booty scratcher”. Those experiences helped shaped my opinions. While I’m 100% pro black and have used my position as a partner to ensure that everyone gets an equal opportunity, I’d always feel more comfortable around Africans than black Americans.
I 100% think so. Not typically Asian-Americans, usually Asian-Americans I find are pretty cool towards black people. However, I find that Asians (including South Asia, Middle-Eastern, etc.), who who would be considered international, are more overtly racist toward black people. I’ve had Asians intentionally bump into me in my office - and I judged it as intentional since there was giggling instead of an apology.
Yes, absolutely. Based on personal experience I would rather work with all white people, while they are more exclusive, they are less racist and less harsh.
I think we are all racist or at least biased to others
Fair. I guess maybe racist is the wrong term. To clarify, do you think that other races think black people are less intelligent than them meaning does their bias against Black people intelligence cause them to treat blacks differently?
I don’t necessarily think Asians are more racist towards black folk than other races. However in my experience, they have been more racially prejudiced than other folk. A lot of that is old school mentality and watching too much mainstream news.
I come from a south Asian background and happy to say all my friends I made in big 4 are black. They are the only people I exchanged numbers with socially and see outside the office. I do see many Asian immigrant parents having a negative view of black Americans and unfortunately can rub off on the youth. But growing up, I did see a lot of Asian American kids trying to copy black culture. My experience with blacks could be difference since I was born in a pre-dominantly black neighborhood in New York and lived in Ghana before
