Are federal Justice Department lawyers unionized?

Separately, how often are DOJ attorneys required to be in office?

Former federal gov't atty here. DOJ attorneys are not part of a bargaining unit (I think that's true across the organization). Days in the office varies on the office/function; with more than 11K attorneys, there is a lot of variety in how much in-person time the work requires (e.g., a national security attorney at Main Justice in DC will be in the office every day; an ethics attorney, a lot less so).

I’ve practiced litigation in DC for about 5+ years at a larger plaintiffs’ firm, and am considering a switch to a defense firm. Is there any insight to how many billable hours this would require, and how much time that would actually be? For reference, the firm has a 1900 billable hour requirement and the partner said I would have “no problem” fulfilling that based on the work they have.

We get four weeks paid and four weeks unpaid. Would like to push for more but not sure how to argue costs side of it.
