December layoffs anywhere?
I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?
So, lay off until the pandemic blows over.

At tech companies and startups, it seems to be almost daily. Haven’t heard about agencies yet.

If the economy can’t handle moving interest rates from an accommodative to a neutral setting then that’s a worry. Although money set at 0% is way more than accommodative - and that’s probably where the issue is. To have had trillions of dollars of nearly free money slouching around looking for yield; which went into the stock market, crypto, nft’s, real estate, and anything that resembled an investment.
We can only assume that an interest rate that was once considered neutral (2.5%) is now considered restrictive. Why? Because there’s just too much debt in the economy and we’re all addicted to cheap money.
Just adding to above we went from 3T in debt to 30T. Now with interests going up many companies who over leveraged will belly up. And somebody will need to pay that bill and it won’t be the richest.
Ad bowl please stop fretting about the economy, most of you don’t know what you’re talking about and are endlessly worrying over nothing aaaaaaarrrrgggghhhhaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!💩💩💩.

I've only heard about Netflix and then big tech companies. Worried that the wave is coming, and soon.
I was wondering the same thing. One more Fed tightening and we are straight into a recession.
No. We aren’t.
Nobody is safe for the next 2 years. We spent a lot of money that didn’t exist. I feel deeply sorry for retirees of this time.
Just imagine getting a 40% paycheck cut, now apply that on top of your life savings. Have some compassion. What’s about to come will make people miserable.
Some companies but not most. I wouldn't sweat it. Its not something you can control anyhow.
Big tech is slowing down on hiring, but projects and accounts associated with it via agencies haven’t been touched (yet). If it’s for start ups, crypto or younger tech companies, I wish them the best. It looks the most volatile.
