I find that it takes several days to get into a holiday mindset. The moment you've finally settled in and are relaxing, you start thinking about going back to work or the pile of work you left behind. It doesn't help all the prep you have to do before taking time off, then the catch up after going back. I know it can be hard but try and switch off completely. Work will always be there whether you're all caught up or not. There's nothing that can't wait until you're back so just enjoy your time off.
I'd say I'm going at half-speed for the last two weeks of the year. Tying up a few loose ends, doing some preliminary plans for the upcoming project, but not breaking my neck or stressing out like I do the rest of the year. Things in general have slowed down. There are no new projects or pressing deadlines to meet, so it is a good time to relax a bit. The main objective is not to be so laid back that I start the year with a mountain of work to climb over.
It has been a struggle for me to not do something work related, I’m not looking at a ton of work to come back to, but I know there are some things I could knock out quickly if I did. That is a slippery slope though, and I just try to tell myself work isn’t going anywhere whether I do it now or wait.

The end of year winter break is how I turn off work. Most, if not all, problems can wait a week ✌️
