I’m lifetime titanium and I have not gotten a room upgrade this year. The Marriott I’m staying at this week was like “ we upgraded you to the M lounge floor...it was a 2 room upgrade...🤔"
I can tell you it doesn’t get any better at the ambassador level
At the w, i get suite upgrades about half the time
Amazing in Asia. I’ve gotten 200m2 suites regularly.
Pretty rare but I’ve scored some nice ones recently - great suites at a Ritz and JW (latter with suite nights). Just keep giving them feedback and if you have an ambassador ask them to reach out to the property anytime you actually want an upgrade ie not for a work trip
Not on work accommodation but regularly on vacation. Just drop your ambassador a note and let him know it’s a special occasion.
Upgrades? I got walked as a platinum super whatever...
Sorry, ‘Getting Walked'
More often than not. More often with leisure travel than business.
Not necessarily getting moved to suites, but something better than the lowest tier room I booked.
Did 10 days in Maui though and got upgraded to a junior suite. That was nice
Marriott, especially since the SPG merger, by far has the largest market share and thus has very little incentive to provide consistent, tangible benefits to their loyalty members.
Consider switching to Hilton. They are much better about maintaining quality across the brand, plus their properties tend to be newer. They do have a notably smaller selection to choose from, however
I try to maintain Plat in both, but Hilton has far less properties making it hard to commit 100% if your locations vary, or at a min you’ll stay a lot of nights in a Hampton Inn. The worst Marriotts are better than the worst Hiltons.
And I’ll second the newer properties, and generous “corrections” and multipliers.
Rarely in America, often in Europe, and almost always in Asia.
Same. Asia is almost a guaranteed, and usually to pretty nice suites. Europe 50-60%. America 0%.
There is so much variability in this (location, property, season, occupancy) and by definition an upgrade is relative. I get “upgraded” 75% of the time (major US/EU cities) but as others point out, this is usually just a better floor or view, not necessarily a better room. With that said, if you book the cheapest room with 2 queen beds, then a slightly larger room with a king bed and/or sofa is an upgrade IMO. If you already booked a mid-to-upper priced room I’d bet your upgrades will occur less often.
